PEEK 3D printing in Bengaluru, India
Print Forge 3D prints and machines PEEK parts in Bengaluru for medical, aerospace, automotive and semiconductor programmes across India, from a single prototype to production runs. This page covers where PEEK earns its place, how printing changes its properties, and what to send for a quote.

What is PEEK, and when is it the right material?
Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a semi-crystalline polymer in the PAEK family. Choose it when low weight, chemical resistance, wear or electrical insulation drive the design: wear parts, fixtures, insulators, semiconductor jigs and end-effectors, and brackets or housings that see heat and fluids.
For equal volumes, VICTREX 450G (1.30 g/cm³) is approximately 71% less dense than TIMETAL 6-4 titanium (4.42 g/cm³). That is a material density comparison, not a claim of equal strength or of a finished-part weight saving. PEEK is also far less stiff than aluminium or titanium, so a metal geometry copied directly into PEEK will usually deflect more; expect to add ribs or change the load path.

Named grades are manufacturer references, not a Print Forge stock list or Print Forge test results. Specify the grade your application requires; the quotation confirms the material supplied. Resin data and printed-coupon data use different test conditions and are not interchangeable.
How 3D printing changes PEEK's properties
Printed PEEK parts are usually made by high-temperature material extrusion (FDM). The polymer is the same as in the datasheet; the structure is not.
Build direction: XY, XZ and ZX
A printed part is a stack of fused beads. Load along the beads and the part behaves closer to the bulk polymer; load across the layers and the interlayer bond carries it, which is weaker. The published Antero 800NA (PEKK) data shows the size of the effect: tensile yield of 86.7 MPa in XZ against 59.4 MPa in ZX (ASTM D638, F900, T20F tip, 0.254 mm layers; datasheet).
Crystallinity and annealing
PEEK's stiffness, heat resistance and chemical resistance depend on how much of it crystallises. Beads that cool quickly can stay partly amorphous, often visible as a darker amber tone next to the opaque tan of crystalline PEEK. A heated build chamber and a controlled post-print anneal raise crystallinity, but annealing can also shrink or move the part. Note that the 152 °C heat deflection figure above is for unannealed material. If the part must be annealed, say so in the brief, and machine critical faces after the anneal.
Drying and porosity
Moisture in the filament causes voids and poor surfaces, so it is dried before printing. Pressure-tight parts still need a leak test or a machined sealing face.
Design guidance for printed PEEK parts
- Orient the part so the main load runs along the layers, and mark the load direction on the drawing.
- Keep wall sections as uniform as you can. Thick-to-thin transitions cool unevenly and warp.
- Leave machining stock on bores, sealing faces and datum surfaces. Printing starts at ±0.3% (minimum ±0.3 mm); machining starts at ±0.020 mm.
- Machine fine threads or use inserts. Printed threads suit coarse pitches only.
PEEK for medical device development
Industrial VICTREX 450G is not an implant material. Implant grades such as Invibio PEEK-OPTIMA™ carry manufacturer biocompatibility data for implantable applications (Invibio FAQ). Print Forge works on development prototypes, anatomical models and surgical-guide concepts. An implantable device also needs implant-grade material, a qualified manufacturing process and device registration by the device owner. State any regulatory requirements in your brief; the quotation sets out what is in scope.
What to send for a PEEK 3D printing quote
- CAD: STEP or IGES for design review and quoting; STL or 3MF if you only have print-ready mesh geometry.
- A PDF drawing with units, revision, datums, the critical dimensions and their tolerances, threads and fits.
- Material: the exact PEEK grade if it is mandatory, otherwise the temperature, load, chemicals and duration the part must survive.
- Build requirements: load direction, any annealing requirement and the surfaces to be machined.
- Quantity and timing: the first batch, expected repeat volumes and a target delivery date.
- Inspection and documents: whether you need a dimensional inspection report, material traceability or other records.
- Confidential designs: tick discuss an NDA before sharing files in the quote form. You can start the conversation without attaching CAD.
Quotes are returned within 24 hours of a complete brief. The design-review checklist lists the questions an engineering review will ask.
Frequently asked questions
Is a printed PEEK part as strong as the datasheet value?
Usually not in every direction. The 98 MPa tensile yield for VICTREX 450G is resin data at 23 °C to ISO 527-2. A printed part depends on build direction, crystallinity, bead fusion and geometry, so test the part, or a coupon printed with the same settings, in the direction that carries load.
What is the maximum operating temperature of a PEEK part?
There is no single figure. The 260 °C often quoted for PEEK is the VICTREX 450G electrical relative thermal index (UL 746B), not a loaded-part limit. Heat deflection is 152 °C at 1.8 MPa for unannealed material (ISO 75-2/Af). Give the temperature, load and duration in your brief so the grade and route can be chosen around them.
Can I specify a filled or implant-grade PEEK?
Yes. Name the exact grade in the brief. VICTREX 450G and Invibio PEEK-OPTIMA are references, not a stock list; the quotation confirms the grade supplied and the documentation that comes with it.
